Former national bantamweight boxer,John Nderu, has died age 75 years on Thursday.

According to his son Edward Mwaura, Nderu died Thursday morning at Baraka Hospital in Nakuru.

Nderu is said to have struggled with dementia and was missing for eight days.

Nderu will be buried in Rongai, Nakuru on Wednesday.

According to former Kenya’s featherweight champion, Philip Waruinge, Nderu and him grew up together and described how they were like brothers.

They represented Kenya’s in the 1966 Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica that saw Nderu secure a bronze medal and Waruinge win gold.

Patrick Maina who is the Prisons’ assistant team coach shared that the boxer had retired before joining Prisons.

According to reports one of Nderu’s former boxing colleagues, Stephen Thiga, is also struggling with dementia.
