The wife of a slain Nakuru businessman has been drawn into the murder of her husband, which happened on December 1, 2018.

Julius Kimani left his place of work late for home on a fateful day, arriving home a few minutes past midnight, only to be abducted by a number of men as he tried to gain entry into his home.

The gang then put him in their vehicle and drove away, with the commotion at the gate attracting the family members.

His wife is said to have stepped out, only to find the engine running and the doors wide open.

According to James Mathu, father to the late Kimani, the police then started a search but could not find him until the following day.

“We did not find him that night, then later the following morning we were informed that he had been found dead at South Cemetry,” he said.

The body of the late Kimani lay at the cemetery in a pool of blood, with injuries to the head and chest, with his legs and hands tied with ropes.

Then investigative authorities started piecing together evidence from phone records, CCTV footage, and confessions, with the evidence pointing back to Kimani’s home.

His wife of 10 years Gladys Wambui was a suspect in the murder, with the family saying the two have been fighting for long.

“They have been fighting a lot and we have had to sit down and resolve. Then she left her home for like two weeks and went to her Eldoret home, she then said the matter was not settled yet,” said the father to the deceased.

The brother of the late Kimani Pharace Gachieha said initial reports indicated that the wife was a suspect.

“On the fateful night when Kimani was hijacked, Wambui and the suspects were in good communication and the one who had the phone is in court with the case and we found out that he communicated with Kim seven times before Kim was killed,” he said.

He added: “On that night they wanted that we give them Sh8 million but went silent at some point,”

According to investigations, Wambui had allegedly paid the killers Sh1.2 million, with CCTV cameras capturing one of the suspects collecting the cash in Nakuru town.

The family wants the police to conduct thorough investigations and the suspects prosecuted.

The wife and the other suspects were in court to take a plea and were remanded until the 17th of this month.
