Alshabaab claimed responsibility for an attack that claimed the lives of two Somali lawmakers on Tuesday near Mogadishu, the capital of Somali.
The bodyguards of the legislators were also killed in the brazen attack.
Authorities say that the attack happened as the two were being ferried in a convoy escorted by soldiers when it was ambushed by the militants.
''The lawmakers, Sheikh Dahir and Ismail Mumin, died in the fighting. Several of their bodyguards were also killed. Some bodyguards escaped into the jungle and are still missing,'' Abdullahi Abdirahman, a security official told the media.
The attack adds to the brazen spate of attacks that the ragtag terrorist organisation has been able to pull in spite of suffering significant reversals on the battlefield.
In the same week, they carried out an attack that killed GSU officers in Liboi.
Kenya is part of multilateral efforts in Somalia to deal Alshabaab a blow.
