Busaa is a beverage mainly consumed by people from Western Kenya, especially the Luhya.It is consumed during traditional ceremonies such as weddings, initiation ceremonies and even funeral. A group of scientific researchers from the University of Nairobi, Canada, and Germany has found that this hallowed beverage contains cancer-causing poisons.They established that maize and sorghum used in the preparation of busaa contain chilling levels of aflatoxins.The researchers have subjected a number of unlicensed beers to tests and are convinced that they could spell doom on the health of consumers.Busaa samples collected from Kibera, a slum in Nairobi, had the highest level of aflatoxins.The researchers attributed the aflatoxins to the deliberate use of bad maize.
