The school shoe business is doing amazing in Kibera ahead of the opening of schools next week.
Traders selling school shoes are fetching more profits as residents in Kibera are turning out in large numbers to buy shoes for their children who will be going back to school next week for the second term.
A pair of black school shoes now ranges from sh650 to sh1, 500 depending on the size of the shoe and the quality. Traders have hiked the prices since more customers are now turning out to buy them to avoid last minute rush.
James Mwangi is a trader selling school shoes at Laini Saba market. He said that during school opening seasons, parents’ turn out in large numbers to buy shoes for their children before going back to school.
"In order to satisfy the many customers who turn out to buy the shoes, a price hike is necessary. This is the time we enjoy our business," said Mwangi.
Another trader, Kimani, urged parents to prepare and shop early for their children to avoid the last minute rush.
