A micro-business owner from Moturumesi region in Kitutu Masaba is counting massive losses after suspected thieves stole over Sh150,000 and goods estimated at Sh100,000.
Kevin Ochengo suffered the loss on Monday night moments after closing his shop to attend to other matters.
According to him, the perpetrators forced their way into the sitting room from the back door and ordered him to give them keys and subsequently threatened to shoot him using a pistol.
It is after this he complied and decided to lie down to give them time to carry all they wanted from his shop. They tied him to a table and dared him to alert neighbours.
“It was a tough experience for me now that it has just happened for the first time. They were armed and their number was quite large that is why it was difficult to deal with them because I feared they might kill me,” he said.
“I was tightly tied hence I could not even make any move. After leaving I had to make some noise to attract attention of neighbours for rescue,” he said.
Manga police officers say they have launched an investigation into the incident and are optimistic that they will apprehend the perpetrators soon.
“We have held two suspects and they have recorded a statement with us. These are known gangsters and we will catch up with them soon,” OCS Tyson Omondi said.
