Area Public health officer Cornelius Barasa has warned of dire consequences if any of the shopkeepers in the area will be found selling drugs especially paracetamol drugs without advice from health officials.

Speaking on Wednesday at Nyakegogi shopping centre in the area during an impromptu assessment of the businesses, Barasa directed that all paracetamol drugs being sold across the counter be disposed of or surrendered to the health officers since they posed a serious health risk to members of the public.

Barasa said it was only public health officials who are supposed to prescribe a dosage of drugs to members of the public and anybody doing the same was doing contrary to the law.

"I am warning shopkeepers against selling non-prescribed drugs across the counter since they pose serious health risks to the consumers who could be overdosing or under dosing themselves to the detriment of their health," he said.
