Shops in Kisii remained busy than it was expected as parents went shopping for their children ready to go back to school.
Parents were on Monday rushing against time as long queues were witnessed at bookshops and uniform retailers.
According to one of the parents, Daniel Mogire, he is shopping so that once the strike is over, his children can go back to school.
“We are just doing the shopping though we do not know when the strike will end. We urge the government to solve the issue so that the learning can go on,” said Mogire.
He added that that they are being forced to dig deeper into their pockets given that prices have gone up.
"After going all around the shops in town, most commodities have hiked and shopping has become expensive. Right now, I am buying uniforms for my son who is going to class five and the amount I have spent is more than I did last year," said Daniel.
Currently most public schools in Kisii are closed and those that were opened had a low turnout of students as there are no teachers.
