Kenyans have been urged to demonstrate their love to fellow Kenyans by donating their blood this month.
The acting director of Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service Josephine Githaiga on Thursday noted that there has been an increase in demand for blood due to road accidents. Githaiga added that there's always someone in need of blood and hence the need of enough blood in the blood reserves.
"You may not know someone but you can show your love by giving part of your life to that person to save them" said Josephine Githaiga.
The one day campaign is set to be on 14th of February and has been dubbed "show your love, donate blood".
The government has partnered with the private sector to ensure that the campaign which is meant to have more Kenyans donate blood is a success.
According to Githaiga, one should donate blood for at least 55 times in their lifetime. However, anyone below 50kgs cannot donate blood.
The World Health Organization advocates for a collection of 400,000 units of blood every year but Kenya only collects 180, 000 units of blood.
