Psychologist, Stella Osoro has accused parents of not showing parental love to their children hence, they tend to run away from home to the streets.
According to her, it is the role of a parent to show love to their children so that they become the first people to express that feeling to their children rather than children running away from home due to lack of peace
Stella who is a member of Angaza Foundation which has set measures of building a rescue center at Kisii county in aid of helping a the girl-child from streets said that most parents have caused their children to go to streets as she advised them to show parental love to their children.
“Most parents have made their children run away from homes to the streets, fathers think that it is wrong to tell their children that they love them hence a girl goes away from home to find some people who will tell her that they love her,” said Osoro.
She added that the prostitution in Kisii and Nyamira is rampant unlike in other towns in Kenya simply because of the underage girls who have flocked the streets, and stated that it is a worrying trend for the future of young girls.
In addition, she said that poverty is the major factor that has led to these girls being in the streets, an issue that also needs to be addressed.
