Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has urged the national government through the Treasury ministry to stop sabotaging devolution through late disbursement of county funds.
Speaking at Starbucks Hotel during a consultative meeting with his staff on Thursday, Oparanya said county governments are almost being declared bankrupt as they have no money.
"I am really disappointed with the national government at the pace at which they are releasing the county government funds. Are they really in support of devolution or they want it to collapse?"he posed.
Oparanya said county government operations have been grounded due to lack of funds to the extent that they cannot pay their staff and contractors.
The Governor said the national government has really let down county governments by always delaying the disbursement of funds thus making their staff to go for months without pay.
"As I am talking now we have not received even a single cent. All county functions including projects such as roads and infrastructure have been paralyzed," he said.
The county boss urged the Treasury to act with speed and disburse the monies to enable counties to run their operations smoothly.
