[Photo|Philip Nyamai]A showdown looms between students of the University of Nairobi (UoN) and the police, today (Tuesday). This is after the students vowed to take to streets, to protest brutality and police harassment, meted on them last week. One student succumbed to injuries inflicted by the police, an incident that angered fellow students, who have vowed to ensure justice is served.Under the leadership of former UoN's SONU student leader Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, the students vowed to demonstrate to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet's office, and frog march him out.According to the students, Boinnet failed to act, when police brutalized them and should therefore resign. The students are also calling for the resignation of their Vice Chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi, for allowing police access to the institution, to beat them up.On Monday night, they held a night vigil, where they said Tuesday demonstrations would be the mother of all demonstrations dubbed "Mbithi must Go".
