A showdown looms in the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) following demands by the Knut chairman that the secretary general Wilson Sossion resigns.

This comes after Sossion on Sunday claimed that Nzili was no longer in office after an alleged resignation.

The chairman on Sunday defied Sossion's order of taking a six-month terminal leave prior to his retirement in May next year.

"Having served in the union for a considerable period of time, you are well aware that as a matter of common practice and custom, the union does not mix national party politics with teachers’ professional issues. Knut is a professional union," Nzili told Sossion.

He said Sossion should vacate the office and be replaced by his deputy Hesbon Otieno.
