The ruling Jubilee Party and the NASA team are in disagreement over the vetting of the new Cabinet Secretary team.

The NASA team wants fresh interviews for the retained CSs, while the ruling party sees no need to have them vetted since they have been serving in the cabinet.

House Majority leader Aden Duale had indicated that there was no need for the fresh vetting, with, National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi saying they should all be vetted.

Speaking after meeting US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec, Mbadi said the same way they are vetted every term they go for elections is the same way the CSs should be vetted.

“I am a third term MP. Every time I go for election, I am vetted and every time I win, I have to take a fresh oath of office,” the Suba South MP said on Monday.

“Is it not a serious level of ignorance when someone says incumbent Cabinet secretaries, once reappointed, cannot be vetted and cannot take a fresh oath of office?”

Fred Matiangi, Henry Rotich, Najib Balala, James Macharia, Joe Mucheru and Charles Keter were all retained by President Kenyatta, when he announced his first batch of cabinet secretaries last week on Friday.
