A showdown looms between president Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, in Mtongwe.  It is believed the two will attend same event, to officially launch the resumption of the ferry services at Mtongwe, today (Monday).

The two have been political enemies, as Joho criticises Jubilee government, saying it had sidelined the people of Mombasa and the entire Coast region.

In terms of improving the services of the ferry, State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) launched MV Harambee after undergoing major rehabilitation at the African Marine and General Engineering Company (AMGECO), December 2016.

''Similarly, the Kenya Ferry Services have been refurbishing the Mtongwe berth at a cost of KSHS 6 billion, after its closure in 2012,'' he said, Sunday.   It is expected that one of the 5 ferries at the Likoni channel will be used at the Mtongwe berth.   The channel was closed in November 2011, leaving the Likoni channel, operational.
