A bar owner was on Wednesday ordered to pay a bond of 15,000 shillings in Kangundo Law Court for operating an alcohol bar without license for the sale of liquor.

Kivindyo Mutua, 34 years old was arrested on Tuesday in Matungulu location in Machakos County by Kangundo police officers after they stormed the bar during a routine inspection.

Mutua appeared on Wednesday for the case mentioning before Kangundo Law Court Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi for breach of liquor Licensing ACT that requires every business premises selling liquor to acquire a permit to do so.

Magistrate Mugambi in his ruling stated that the accused had broken the law and also put the life of his customers at risk by failing to act in the accordance with the license rule.

“The accused breached the license Control Act that requires a mandatory permit to run any premises selling alcohol and responsible service of alcohol. It is also putting the lives of the buyers at risk as the government is not aware of such premises hence no surety if the alcohol genuine,” said Mugambi.

The bar owner was released with a bond of 15,000 shillings as the case is set to be heard again on the fifth of April
