Kerwa village Chief Samuel Ngaruiya has urged youths from Kikuyu sub-county to shun drug abuse and instead contribute to development projects.
Speaking after a meeting with various youth leaders, Ngaruiya said that youths have a very vital role to play in development.
He observed that many youths from the village have been consumed by alcohol a situation he said is a threat to the area’s development progress.
“Young people should keep away from drugs and work with leaders to promote development. There is no any single positive gain found in abusing drugs, those abusing drugs are just ruining their lives,” said Ngaruiya.
The chief urged youth leaders to be on the frontline in the fight against drug abuse and other social evils.
He also said that campaigns aimed at fighting drug abuse will be rolled out soon in the location adding that it is among the measures aimed at curbing drug abuse in Kiambu County in general.
The chief also appealed to leaders to work together in fighting drug abuse in the area and find solutions to unemployment which he blamed on high drug abuse cases among the youths.
Ngaruiya also urged parents to take their responsibilities seriously saying that many of them have absconded their roles as parents.
“Parents should spend more time with their children and understand their behaviours. This will help them know how to correct them and give them parental advice accordingly,” said chief Ngaruiya.
Ngaruiya further cautioned young people against taking part in criminal acts saying that those caught will be taken and charged in court.
