Church leaders in Kisii County want area politicians to shun clannism and instead embrace peace and unity as the country approach the next general elections.
Led by Pastor John Ongori of Seventh Day Adventist, the spiritual leaders asked residents to avoid politicians who tend to divide them into tribal lines for selfish purposes.
“Our country is greater than any single individual. We want leaders who will not look down upon any person who lives in Kisii,” added Ongori.
He observed the county has many resources, which should benefit all residents regardless of their backgrounds.
“Our county is rich in agriculture, culture and many natural features like hills and forest, whose revenue should be used to benefit all residents,” he said.
The clergy also urged politicians to sell reasonable manifestos that are convincing in order to gain support from the voters.
“It is wrong for politicians to take advantage of the large crowds in churches to advance their selfish needs,” he added.
He said political supremacy should not manifest in churches as these institutions are divine where people from all backgrounds go to worship.
The leaders were speaking on Tuesday evening at a peace crusade in Suneka.
