Shurie Secondary school in Masalani town of Ijara Sub-County has been closed.
This is after about 600 students peacefully stormed out of their school on Monday complaining of poor management by the school administrators.
The students walked out of the school claiming they had lacked power for the last three months and have been using a generator which is switched off at 10 pm.
Students who sought anonymity said the school food was also substandard and appealed to the Sub County Director of Education (SCDE), Adan Sheikh to intervene.
They also complained that form one and three students had been sent home for non-payment of school fees while the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) had disbursed Sh. 2 million to the school to cater for needy students but the school administration denied receiving the money.
Efforts to contact the school principal, Ali Haret were fruitless as his phone was off and the SCDE could also not be reached for comment as he had reportedly travelled to Nairobi for a meeting.
Ijara Deputy County Commissioner, Julius Too said he will call for a board meeting to discuss the students’ grievances.
