Funeral arrangements for the slain anti-IEBC protesters in Bondo are in top gear with the County government of Siaya offering the affected families financial support to cater for funeral expenses.
Ochieng Mawere who is the coordinator of the funeral committee of the three protesters who were shot dead by police on Friday last week, said Siaya governor will give a coffin and Sh50,000 to each family besides paying for postmortem and transportation costs.
Mawere revealed that the funeral committee chaired by Enos Ruong’o had finalized arrangements for a requiem mass on Friday 20th where the three bodies will be prayed for at the Jaramogi Park in Bondo town.
Mawere who is also a political advisor to Siaya governor Cornel Rasanga further disclosed that the funeral service will be graced by Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga among other political leaders.
Speaking when the committee met the affected families in Bondo, Mawere said the governors’ office is committed to giving the deceased a decent send off since they died fighting for a political course.
He stated that the office of the governor is also considering seeking justice for the victims saying the three demonstrators were shot more than 400 meters away from Bondo police station where they had allegedly invaded.
The three bodies of Maurice Otieno Okumu (31), Stephen Omondi Oduor (22) and Edward Ochieng Odhiambo (15) which currently lie at Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary are set to undergo postmortem on Wednesday 17th.
Otieno will be buried in Ogoya village, Nyangoma division in Bondo sub-county, Omondi will be laid to rest at Kademba village, Nyajuok sublocation in Alego Usonga sub-county while Ochieng will be buried in Kanyawuor village, East Karateng’ location in Kisumu county.
