According to Deputy Governor Ouma Onyango, each of the former elected leaders will receive Sh1.5 million before the end of the year.

After the payment, the beneficiaries will also receive a monthly allowance of Sh30,000, a development that is expected to cost the county government Sh892.8 million every year.

"We must care for your retired leaders financially as they are considered heroes," Onyango was reported by the Star as saying.

"We cannot allow them to die of hunger as that will not be the way to appreciate them."

He however, clarified that only those outside active politics will be compensated.

He also said qualified former councilors will be absorbed in the county government as employees.

The councilors, recently, led by Obede Ombere petitioned the county government seeking for compensation.
