Police are investigating an incident where a middle aged female teacher who served as a deputy presiding officer with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), was on Saturday discovered in a thicket at Sega trading centre in Siaya County.
Caroline Odinga's body was found Saturday morning in a thicket by residents who were going to the burial of slain former IEBC ICT director Chris Musando at Lifunga village.
The Ugenya High School teacher served with the IEBC on August 8.
According to Siaya County Police Commander Sarah Duncan, police are investigating the circumstances under which Odinga's death occurred.
"We were attending the burial of Chris Musando when we received information that a lifeless body was found dumped in a thicket in Sega. We have launched investigations into the matter," she said.
She added that information from the deceased's family indicate she left home on Friday going for her pay from IEBC.
A preliminary check showed that she was gang-raped as her genitals were badly mutilated.
"We urge the locals to ensure that they keep off sensationalising this matter and let the police do their work," Mrs Duncan said as quoted by Nation.
