Education stakeholders have called for need of a robust security arrangement, as a move to assure the success of the Digital Literacy Program (DLP).
Speaking during the launch of the Digital Literacy Program at Aluor Mixed and Kambare Primary Schools in Gem, Siaya County, Ronny Osumba the chairman Youth Enterprise Development Fund appealed for a proper security arrangement by schools and community members to secure the DLDs.
“There have been numerous reports of theft of the tablets in schools by unscrupulous individuals who do not seem to care about the importance of the devices in leaning in schools, we therefore strongly appeal to schools to employ a lot of emphasis on security of these gadgets,” Osumba said.
He called for ownership of the program and tolerance citing that the notion that the program was designed to hoodwink the electorate ahead of the elections was ill advised.
He assured that it was a national program and that every Kenyan child has a right to benefit from the program.
He on the other hand appealed to the community to embrace the program since it is geared towards helping children transit to the digital era noting that things were fast relocating to the online sphere.
He urged school managements to engage with the provincial administration and craft a security deal to ensure the gadgets are safe.
Similar sentiments on security were echoed by the Gem Sub- County Director of Education Samson Ngariba who indicated his commitment towards ensuring the program runs effectively, Friday.
