[Photo|BCG]MORGEM Edible Oil Industry is seeking partnership with Busia County government to establish an oil processing plant in the border county.The firm's Technical Director Samuel Ouma and Director in charge of Information Technology, Sales and Finance Winnie Owuor on Thursday met Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi to explore possibilities of investing in Busia County.Ouma said they had identified Busia as a potential area where Simsim, Sunflower and Candlenut which are used in cooking oils production are widely grown in most parts of the County.Flanked by student leader University of Nairobi Mirimo Nyongesa from Matayos who initiated the partnership talks, Ouma said their target was to create market and improve economic status of Western region residents."A part from the edible oils, we shall engage in the production of animals feed including Simsim and Sunflower seed cakes, Candlenut (Kernel) which is locally known as 'Njugu Mawe' or Kabaka. We shall start a processing plant in the County depending on the availability of raw materials. The County has conducive environment to produce Simsim, Sunflower and Candlenut."He said MORGEM was an and acronym for MOR (Happiness or oil) and GEM (constituency where the plant was built in Awala, Siaya in 2015).Ouma said they were planning to make their first export to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia through the Export Promotion Council, adding that the demand for the products was overwhelming.
