Residents living along beaches in Siaya county have been asked to observe sanitation to avert a cholera outbreak.
The disease has been reported in neighbouring Migori, Kisumu and Homa Bay counties.
Siaya Beach Management Unit chairman Tobias Katete said there is a need to take precaution to stop the spread of the disease.
He said BMU officials will educate the public on importance of cleanliness. Speaking to the press in Bondo town yesterday, Katete said his office has liaised with health officers in the region to avert the outbreak.
"We have issued directives on bathing and washing utensils in the lake," he said.
Katete urged beach residents living in populated areas to use pit latrines. He told beach residents to be vigilant and heed the caution.
