The 48-years-old teacher at Sega Girls' Primary School, Siaya County, was ranked seventh globally, best from East Africa and third in Africa.

The Council runs the prestigious international writing competition, in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat. This year's theme is 'Belonging', with the competition receiving  over 2,000 entries from both school children and the Commonwealth member states.

Ojoro was ranked behind two Nigerian teachers and over 2,000 others from around the globe.

Speaking after the competitions, she said she had been working tirelessly to provide good living to people living with albinism, through campaigns.

She said her passion to support such people came after realising nobody had control over the condition.

An Indian teacher, Nandini Dasqupta was ranked overall global winner in the teacher category, with Nigeria's Ngozi Razak-Soyebi coming second.
