The bodies of two children who had drowned in Kaigitu dam in Mwala have been retrieved.
The bodies were retrieved on Thursday by police after hours of search.
The two siblings aged 7 and 4 drowned on Wednesday as they fetched water from the dam.
Confirming the incident, Machakos police boss Joseph Ole Leila said that the two siblings had been sent to fetch water by their parents when they slipped at drowned in the dam.
Leina said that investigations have been launched into the incident.
He cautioned parents and guardians against sending their children to the dam without someone to supervise them.
“Cases of children and elderly persons drowning in the dam have gone up,” he said.
Early last month, an elderly woman fell in the dam and died as she tried to fetch water.
Leina said that consultations are in place with the county government to construct a fence around the dam to curb future calamities.
He asked residents to keep off the dam that has been filled with water due to the heavy rains being experienced in the area.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Machakos Level Five hospital for postmortem examination.
