The motion filed by a Mandera MP seeking the removal of Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki from office has been withdrawn.
Mandera North MP Bashir Abdullahi, who sponsored the motion in the National Assembly, has withdrawn it.
Mr. Abdullahi who was with National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale on Thursday announced that he had dropped the motion saying that the decision was made after consultation with President Kenyatta and Mr. Deputy President William Ruto.
“We had a meeting with the party leadership and resolved that this matter is addressed internally using the Jubilee Party structures,” Mr. Abdullahi said.
MP Abdullahi had collected signatures from over 170 legislators who were supporting the removal of Ms. Kariuki from office.
The MPs had accused her of arrogance and lack of respect when dealing with legislators and failure in her mandate.
The MPs further said Ms. Kariuki’s decision to suspend Kenyatta National Hospital Chief Executive Officer Lillian Koros prior to investigations into the brain surgery mixup was wrong.
“She has used her office to deny other qualified Kenyans the chance to be the CEO of the hospital by ordering the board to re-submit another list,” said Mr. Abdullahi in the motion.
The legislators who tabled the motion in the National Assembly have instead given the Jubilee leadership more time to resolve the matter.
