Cholera poses a threat to everyone as no one is guaranteed of not contracting the disease.The cholera bacterium can exist on many surfaces in the proximity of human beings, posing a great danger given how quick it weakens the body.It’s important to know the common signs and symptoms so as to seek quick medical attention when you contract the disease.Diarrhoea is the most common sign. The cholera-related stool has been known to have a milky appearance which differentiates it from normal diarrhoea. This condition is very dangerous since it dehydrates the body very quickly.A person suffering from cholera is also likely to experience nausea especially when the infection starts to affect the body. Health experts note that nausea can continue for hours before it ceases.Research has revealed that cholera infested patients might experience muscle cramps, a condition that is occasionally attributed to the loss of important salts in the body due to dehydration.Dehydration causes a reduction in blood levels in the body. A drop in blood pressure can make body tissues not to receive enough oxygen which poses a great risk to patients.Dr Abdinasir Abubakar, a medical officer at the World Health Organization (WHO) argues that preventing cholera through practising high levels of hygiene in much safer than seeking treatment, which doesn’t guarantee survival.
