Hard times in life do not care about age. Bad things happen to the young and old alike. Your child is therefore not immune to the sad things that find us. Sometimes it can get so bad that your child falls into depression. How do you know that your child is depressed? You will notice a slight or huge change in their behaviour. They might get agitated on small matters that would initially slide past them. It can look like mood swings but it is really them having a hard time. They are not able to process everything that is bugging them. They can start acting out. An extrovert can suddenly start having introvert tendencies. An outgoing child can be disinterested in the outdoors. They start to lock themselves in their room or spend too much time in the house instead of playing outside. Sometimes the depression can cause them to get distracted from they academic focus. It might lead to poor grades. Activities that interested them so much can seem distant. Any change in your child's behaviour should catch your eye. You should talk to them and identify what exactly is bothering them.
