The government is committed to eliminating hunger in the country, Agriculture Principal Secretary Fred Sigor has said.

Addressing farmers during celebrations to mark World Food Day in Nyamira on Friday, Sigor said it was government's priority to ensure Kenyans produce enough food and that they do not starve.

"We will work closely with development partners to ensure we fight food insecurity," he said during the celebrations attended by over 5,000 people.

The PS asked farmers to add value to their produce to earn more cash in the market.

Sogir commended the county government for allocating more money to the Agriculture Ministry to support farmers' quest to produce more food.

He also said the government will strive to provide low cost fertilizer to farmers adding that Vision 2030 will not be achieved if Kenyans did not have adequate food in their stores.

World Food Programme Country Director Paul Turnbull said WFP would strive to eliminate hunger in the country.

Mr Turnbull said WFP will provide food to children in schools in arid and semi arid areas of the country.
