Five months after launching daily flights into Kisumu from Nairobi's Wilson Airport, Silverstone Air has launched a direct route from Kisumu to Mombasa International Airport.
The initiative is set to revolutionise trade and tourism between the Lake Region Economic Block Counties and the Jumuia za Pwani.
Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch who was present to witness the launch, said that when the aviation history of Kisumu is written, Silverstone will grace those hallowed pages.
"Kisumu County values the partnership and the services offered by this airline in promoting tourism, trade and ease of transportation and the county will always be at hand to offer any necessary support," said Kisumu County CeC for Tourism Ms Achie Alai who represented Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong'o at the event on Friday.
The Sh10,000 one way flight and Sh20,000 return will see the plane fly Kisumu-Mombasa route twice weekly on Fridays and Sundays departing Kisumu at 1pm arriving at the coastal town at 2.30 pm and setting off on the return path at 3 pm to land at the lakeside airport at 4.40 pm.
To commemorate this maiden flight, Silverstone offered free return ride to 32 selected passengers picked across the board including county government officers.
