Traders in Mombasa and Kisumu have a reason to smile after a local air company announced plans to start direct cargo flights between Mombasa and Kisumu.
Silverstone Air which unveiled passenger direct flights between the two cities in February said the new cargo route will boost business in the two counties.
"We will start cargo transportation and we are slightly cheaper. We will do all cargo and parcels apart from non-dangerous goods. For body transportation we will charge Sh40,000 only," the airline's sales manager Patrick Oketch said on Monday as quoted by Business Daily.
"Traders dealing with fish from the two counties who have been urging us to start transporting their commodities can now breathe a sigh of relief."
The airline is a new entrant in the Kenyan market and has been busy launching new routes six months after establishing office in the country.
The low cost carrier is targeting to tap into the rich Coast and Western markets and is charging Sh10,500 for a one-way ticket between Mombasa and Kisumu.
Since its launch in 2017, the company has directly employed 186 Kenyans.
Mombasa and Kisumu are two busy destinations and the growing economies of the two counties is attracting more investors there.
