Angry Bodaboda operators on Saturday, 06, evening burned down a bus belonging to the Simba Coach Sacco along the Mombasa Malindi highway after it knocked down a 23-year man who was a Bodaboda rider to death.

The incident happened at Kijiwetanga along the road. Witnesses who spoke to a local daily said that the driver of the Simba Coach bus which was heading to Malindi from Nairobi hit the was trying to overtake another vehicle when it hit the Bodaboda rider and killed him on the spot.

Drama ensued after the Bodaboda operators who were angered by the accident mobilized themselves and set the bus ablaze.

However, no other person was hurt in the incident since the driver escaped after he was tipped on the plan and the passengers who were in the bus scampered for safety.

A Traffic snarl up built along the road since the bus was burned in the middle of the road. Residents said that the incident was going to act as a lesson to other careless drivers on the route.

Malindi OCPD Matawa Muchangi who confirmed the incident said that the police pleaded with the residents to abandon their quest to set the bus ablaze but their efforts were futile.

The police and the National Disaster management unit has been pleading with Kenyans not to take the law into their own hand.

The body of the operator is now lying in Malindi hospital mortuary.
