A Public Services Vehicle company in Nakuru County has bowed down to an outcry by commuters to reduce fare charges in line with the reduced fuel prices.
Sita Line Sacco whose members operate between Bahati and Nakuru town on Wednesday announced a reduction in transport cost charges by 25% giving passengers a relief of paying Sh10 less from the usual Sh40.
The Sacco’s Chairman Daniel Ndungu told this writer on Wednesday at the Sacco’s offices in Nakuru town that the decision to reduce the transport charges was reached at by the Sacco’s Executive Committee after taking into consideration several issues including the reduction in fuel prices, complaints from commuters and competition posed by other Public Service Vehicle operators along the route.
“We did not make the decision to reduce fair charges blindly but we considered many things. One of them was the need to attract our customers and stem out competition after receiving complaints from our customers,’’ said Ndung’u adding that it was prudent for PSV among other vehicle transport service providers in the country to reduce fare charges after the government announced reduced oil prices two month ago.
According to the Sacco’s Boss majority of their customers are rural areas residents in parts of Bahati who come to Nakuru town to seek administrative, home based and business related services hence there was a need to take into consideration their low income status.
He directed all matatus affiliated to the Sacco to adhere to the new charges while at the same he asked passengers to report complaints about over-charging by the matatus crew members.
