Police in Lamu have arrested six suspects in possession of 314 rolls of bhang.
The bhang is said to have a street value of Sh172,600.
Confirming the incident, Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said the suspects were also found in possession of several sachets of cocaine, numerous packages of ecstasy and dangerous weapons amongst them knives, machetes and clubs.
The suspects were arrested following a crackdown conducted by police from various units in Lamu and Tchundwa Islands.
“During the operation, we managed to arrest six suspects among them five men and a woman and they will be arraigned in court this week.”
“The suspects were found in possession of 314 rolls of bhang with a street value of Sh172,600. We are yet to establish the street value of cocaine and heroin,” said Mr Kanyiri.
The county commissioner said they have launched investigation into the matter to arrest other suspects engaging in the illegal business which has affected many youth in the area.
Mr Kanyiri lauded the security officers for their efforts in ending drug trafficking in the area and the public for their efforts that led to the discovery of the drugs and weapons.
He said the crackdown was still ongoing and urged members of the public to work with the police and submit any helpful information.
