Muthama said the directive by Mutua contravenes the labour rights for employees especially in the public sector.

He said employee’s whether in public or private sector are entitled two days rest in a week.

He added that Mutua’s directive contravenes the faith of employees who worship on Saturday.

“It is ridiculous for the government to make such directives that contravene the law,” he said on Wednesday.

The senator said the Constitution, especially on labour rights has to be followed.

A section of Kenyans have also expressed mixed reactions over Mutua’s directive.

In Kiambu town a section of locals felt the move by Mutua contravenes the law while others say that as county governor he is in charge of his staff and can make any decisions on what he wants to be done.

On Tuesday, governor Mutua directed all senior county staff to be working six days a week.

Mutua said the move is meant to accelerate service delivery.

He also said all senior staff will start signing performance contracts.

Mutua stated that all this is aligned to the Maendeleo Chap Chap Paradigm.

The Machakos governor warned that the county will not tolerate lazy workers.
