This is not a norm in the public sector since working days are Monday to Friday but things are now different in Machakos county.

The directive of the six-day policy was issued by governor Mutua last Tuesday when he toured Mlolongo and Syokimau together with chief officers.

The senior county Staff is also set to sign performance contracts. On Saturday, the governor held a meeting with county executives in his Mavoko office to discuss budget Fiscal paper and Finance bill.

Governor Mutua later met chief officers and directors so as to receive action plan on initiation and completion of development projects in the county. The officers later toured Athi River market to interact with Wananchi and learn what they require.

The directive by the governor has attracted criticism from several quarters including Machakos senator Johnston Muthama who termed the move as contravention of labour laws and freedom of worship for the staff that goes to church on Saturdays.
