Six people are reportedly nursing injuries after a confrontation between anti-riot Police squad and potato farmers who had blocked Njoro-Narok Road earlier on Monday.
The farmers were protesting against the county law on potatoes which they said the police have been using to harass them.
"We did not go to work today to come here and know more about this law on potato packaging. Now the police have beaten us up,” said Luke Njoroge, potato farmer and trader.
The farmers who had blocked the busy road for close to three hours had said they will stay put till they are addressed by the relevant Nakuru County officials about the new law.
The protestors were however dispersed by officers who were sent there to clear the road ensuing in a baited battle.
"We cannot be paying taxes and be giving bribes to Police to allow us to do trade,” Bonface Sankare said.
Njoro MP Joseph Kiuna who had arrived to address the protesters was unable to do so after police dispersed them.
"We wanted to have a meeting with the farmers and it was a peaceful meeting until the policemen ruined it,” said Kiuna.
