Six people were seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon after a cargo train rammed into a bus in Ruiru.
Eye witnesses say the accident occurred after the driver of the 46-seater bus underestimated the speed of the train at a railway crossline.
The 46 seater bus belonging to Tulaga PSV Sacco is said to have been speeding when the driver underestimated the distance of the oncoming train. It is then that the train hit the bus pushing it 20 meters along the railway line.
"The driver thought he could pass before the train but unfortunately, he underestimated. Before he could cross, the train rammed into the bus," said an eyewitness.
Kiambu police boss James Murage, said they are pursuing the train driver who vanished after the accident.
"We are still pursuing the train driver who is on run after the accident. We appeal to members of public to provide any information that can lead to his arrest," said Murage.
