Six people have been sentenced by a Mombasa Court to four months in jail after they were found guilty of smoking shisha.
Muktar Abey, Abdulhalim Sadik, Adonai Berhane, Sumeiya Jamaa, Farhiya Ali and Ali Fundi were being charged with illegally smoking shisha.
The six accused persons who were among 10 charged in court pleaded guilty to charges while four others pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution told the court that the ten accused persons were arrested on 21 May at around 10pm at Al-Khaleej cafe in sparki area in Mvita Sub County within Mombasa County.
On the material date, the accused persons were found with three shisha pots which were brought to court as evidence against the accused persons.
Senior resident magistrate Martin Rabera in his ruling found the six accused person guilty and sentenced them to serve four months in jail.
Four others who denied the charges before the court filed an application to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.
Magistrate Rabera granted their request and ordered that they be released on a surety bond of Sh50,000 each or a cash bail of Sh10,000 each.
The government through the Ministry of public health early this year banned smoking of shisha which had negative health effects on smokers.
