At least six people were killed and two others injured in a suspected revenge attack at a village in Banisa Sub-County, Mandera County.
The unknown number of attackers suspected to be from Garre clan, an Ethiopian clan, attacked the village that is near the Kenya-Ethiopian border.
A local chief who spoke on condition of anonymity said the attackers raided the Choroqo village in Mandera.
The chief said the Garre clan members killed five villagers from Degodia clan and injured others before they moved to Domal village where they killed another man.
According to the chief, the attack was meant to revenge the murder of two men from the Garre clan in Ethiopia on Monday.
“Attackers from the Garre clan raided Choroqo village and shot dead five villagers, injuring others on Tuesday. The attackers were revenging killing of two men inside Ethiopia and I cannot understand how happenings in another country can be brought on our land,” said the chief as quoted by Daily Nation.
Banisa Deputy County Commissioner Mathias Chisambo who confirmed the killings said the attack was a retaliatory attack after two people were killed in Ethiopia.
Mr Chisambo said the Garre clan killed five people adding that another man was found dead on the road.
Mr Chisambo said investigation into the incident had been launched and the attackers will be arrested soon.
“Suspected clan militia from the Garre clan killed five people from the Degodia clan. It is not clear who killed the sixth person. We are in the process of knowing who killed the sixth person on the road,” he added.
