Police in Wajir County are looking for a man who has been impersonating the county police commander, Mr. Stephen Ng’etich.
Mr. Ng’etich said the conman has been impersonating him and asking money from ward reps in the county.
According to Mr. Ng’etich, the man called several MCAs while pretending to be him informing them that he would provide them with guns for their protection.
The police commander further said that the suspect told the ward reps that they would have to part with Sh20,000 in order for them to get the guns.
“The suspect has been impersonating the county police commander. He called several ward representatives informing them that he would give them guns due to the growing insecurity,” said Mr. Ng’etich as quoted by a local daily.
He said the six MCAs have fallen prey to the conman adding that detectives have launched investigations into the matter.
“Detectives are looking for the owner of the mobile phone number the money was sent to by the MCAs,” he added.
Last month, a 25-year-old man, Benson Masubo Chacha, was arrested for sending nude photographs as well as coordinate a scheme where funds were solicited from Members of Parliament (MP) while posing as Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege.
