Six women table banking groups selected from West Mugirango and Kitutu Masaba constituencies are set to receive cheques worth Sh150,000 from area Women Representative Alice Chae this coming weekend as phase one of the project enters homestretch.
Early this month, Chae issued similar cheques at Borabu constituency in the exercise which targets a single group per ward.
Speaking to the reporter on Sunday, Chae said beneficiaries were chosen after a thorough scrutiny executed by the affirmative action board and the office of Kenya Table Banking network.
“We are resuming issuance of cheques to table banking groups across the county and this weekend we will be at Bosamaro and Bogichora (West Mugirango) before heading to Manga, Magombo, Gesima and Gachuba (Kitutu Masaba),” she said.
“I want my people to understand that there is a systematic procedure we are using to identify the beneficiaries. We are targeting table banking groups that have shown ability to conduct social-economic activities which transforms the community positively,” she added.
“The affirmative board and Table Banking network are in charge so I am pretty sure that they are identifying deserving groups,” she said in remarks seemed to be answering a number of her critics who have questioned the programme.
She challenged the beneficiaries to use funds prudently as she also announced a planned boda boda safety campaign in collaboration with TVs Company.
“It’s their prime responsibility to ensure they get something good out of that. All we want is positive empowerment. In a week or so, my office will be launching a safety campaign that targets Motorbike riders,” she said.
The second face which will target ten more groups will see a further Sh1.5 million awarded from May.
