The Energy Regulation Commission (ERC) has closed six petrol stations after it was discovered that they were selling adulterated fuel to drivers.

This came after the commission inspected 753 petroleum stations between the months of July and September.

The ERC issued a statement on Friday stating that they had managed to conduct 4,459 tests at various petrol stations around the country.

“From the tests, 97.5 per cent were found to be compliant but 19 sites turned to be non-compliant,” the statement said.

The six stations closed include Legit Kinamba in Nyandarua, Capital filling station Busibwabo in Busia, Sylvester Okoth filing station in Busia, Petronas service station in Kiambu, Josna in Nairobi’s Utawala estate and Yatcher in Trans Nzoia.

The ERC also re-opened 13 other sites that had previously been closed down after they upgraded  their products and payed their penalties.

The commission has maintained that they will continue to take action against any petrol station found selling adulterated oil.
