Six supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) were arraigned in court for allegedly planning protests against the resignation of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba and other officials linked to vote rigging.
The two, who are expected to plead to charges leveled against them today(Tuesday) were released on a Sh2,000 cash bail each pending investigations.
Former EALA MP Peter Mathuki, however, condemned the arrest of the six terming it as one of the highest levels of impunity. He said that the supporters were in his company and Machakos woman rep Joyce Kamene women rep before the arrest.
"Machakos woman rep Joyce Kamene and I were together with the six NASA supporters when the police nabbed them; we were still planning the demonstrations," he said, as quoted by The Star. The politician also said that the opposition wants to know why the arrests were made.
He argued that the constitution gives Kenyans the mandate to protest if not satisfied with election results. He further disputed claims that Kamene had been arrested.
"It is provided for in the constitution that Kenyans have rights to picket and demonstrate," Mathuki added.
