Anti-narcotics detectives on Friday arrested six suspected drug traffickers in Lamu in an ongoing operation to curb the illegal business in this region.Lamu County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo said the officers arrested the suspects with bhang and equipment used for sniffing drugs.The six are Ali Hassan, Imran Mohamed Islam, Hisham Athman Abdallah, Mohamed Twahir Alii, Feiswal Mohamed Islam and Said Abdallah Mohamed.The arrest of the suspects came after the police raided their homes following a tip off from the public.Kitiyo said the raid was conducted by Lamu West police Chief Pius Mbithi alongside 14 other officers.“They are still being probed by our CID officers and they will be arraigned any time from now. The operation continues until the drugs are eliminated and offenders brought to book,” said Kitiyo, as quoted by the local daily.The police boss said the drug menace has ruined the lives of youth in Lamu, with cases of students dropping out of school being rampant.He further asked members of the public to cooperate with the police in the fight against suspected drug barons.
