Police in Mombasa County have arrested six suspects believed to be members of the knife-wielding gangs that have been terrorizing residents in the county.
Confirming the incident, Mombasa police boss Lucas Ogara said the six were arrested after two rival groups clashed in Majengo area, Mombasa.
According to the police, chaos started following the death of one the group members who was allegedly killed on Monday.
According to Baraka FM, members of the group clashed following a misunderstanding among the groups after burying their colleague who was stabbed to death.
During the misunderstanding, the gang members who were armed with crude weapons started attacking and robbing residents in the area.
Mr Ogara said they recovered several machetes and knives from the suspect during the arrest.
“The crackdown on criminal gangs will continue and more suspects will be arrested as we continue with our investigations. We are still patrolling the area to bring back calm. We are warning these criminal gangs that the law will take its course,” said Mr Ogara.
