The seaside town of Diani received special world recognition after 34 international and local divers entertained spectators after leaping out of the sky at 12,000 feet.
One of the local skydivers was Kenya Tourism Board chairman Jimi Kariuki. He was representing the agency that aims at marketing the award-winning beach.
The effort by Kenya Tourism Board follows last month’s Diani Beach Festival that attracted 500 international skydivers.
These were nationals from 37 countries including US, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, South Africa, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, France, Denmark, Qatar, Australia, China, and Japan.
“I enjoyed every minute of it. Imagine you are at 12,000ft in the sky and you are exposed to the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The scenery of the South Coast is excellent. It was a great opportunity to promote this stunning beach holiday destination and woo more holidaymakers from across the globe,” Mr. Kariuki told Nation.
Kariuki urged Kenyans to learn skydiving instructor courses because the sport is currently dominated by foreigners.
Other local tourists who skydived were a Nairobi marketer Andrew Muree and pilots Angela Waihumbu and Derrick Onyancho.
