The tourism sector at the Coast has received a major boost after Skyward Express airline launched direct flights from Mombasa to Lamu. The management of the airline announced the new development in the transport sector during a dinner held at the Pride Inn Paradise beach resort in Mombasa on Friday. The airlines also revealed that the flights will operate twice daily as different stakeholders put in place measures to grow the tourism sector. Travelers can now book tickets for direct flights at 1030 hrs from Mombasa to Lamu and 1130 hours from Lamu to Mombasa.Speaking during the launch of the direct flights, Skyward Express general manager Abdullahi Mohamed said they are impressed with the response they have received so far.“This was a risk worth taking. Since our inaugural flight on March 31, 2017, we have been recording full flights on the route from Mombasa and vice versa,” said Mohamed, as quoted by the Standard.Previously, travelers had to fly to Lamu using the airline from Wilson airport in Nairobi. The airline becomes the first ever company to have direct flights between these two destinations.
